I am a cybersecurity researcher specializing in IoT Security and serve as the Chair
Professor of Cybersecurity
at the University of Glasgow, UK. I am involved in research, PhD and
Postdoc supervision, and teaching.
I am also affiliated with Mälardalen
University as a Professor of cybersecurity, and with the RISE Research Institutes of
Sweden in Stockholm,
as the Research Director of
Cybersecurity, where I have been working since 2008.
Previously, I have served as the Director
of Cybersecurity Unit at RISE for eight (8) years and established the RISE Cybersecurity Unit as
one of the largest technical cybersecurity groups in Sweden, conducting cutting-edge research on
both fundamental and applied cybersecurity topics.
I hold a Docentship (Uppsala University), a PhD, a Licentiate, and
a Master’s degree, all in cybersecurity, from Sweden.
I also have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
I lead and participate in large-scale EU and Swedish research projects and coordination initiatives. Examples include
Cybercampus Sweden (Co-founder and
Research Director),
H2020
CONCORDIA (participant and member of the
management board), Swedish Cybersecurity Research
and Innovation Node - Cyber Node (founder
and project leader), H2020 Arcadian-IoT (technical project leader), and
Horizon Europe CUSTODES (coordinator). I am
the founder and project leader of the RISE Cyber Range, the largest cybersecurity test and demo
facility in Sweden.
I am also an IEEE Senior Member and a member of numerous EU and Swedish cybersecurity
groups and associations
such as EU Stakeholder Cybersecurity Certification Group
(SCCG); European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO), the largest
cybersecurity public-private partnership in EU; and EARTO
Security & Defence Research working group. I also review Swedish and International research
funding proposals and scientific journal articles, act as a
TPC member in conferences, and examine
PhD theses.
Research Interests
PKI & network security for IoT
Our research brings Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to IoT, which includes lightweight digital certificates and their enrollment, renewal, and revocation. We have also developed lightweight network security protocols and intrusion detection for IoT.
IoT assurance & re-certification
With billions of IoT devices having heterogeneous capabilities, it is important to protect consumers by setting cybersecurity standards for IoT. Our research sets requirements and develops continuous cyber certification solutions for IoT.
AI/machine learning & IoT security
Our research on Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) and Cybersecurity covers both AI for better cybersecurity and security of AI/ML techniques. We focus on efficient and secure federated learning and its usage for better IoT security.
Hardware & data security for IoT
Working on security for low-power RISC-V devices; isolation of critical operations using TEE, sandboxing TEE operations, and strengthening TEE security; and IoT data privacy in public clouds using homomorphic encryption and confidential computing.
Highlights
I have a vast experience in EU funding schemes as a coordinator, technical coordinator, and/or a leader of a work package and tasks. If you need a technical cybersecurity partner with expertise in IoT, cloud, AI, 5G, automotive, and software security, and you are interested in the Horizon Europe, DIGITAL Europe, European Defence Fund (EDF), Celtic Next, ITEA, ECSEL, Eurostars, EIT, etc. programs, feel free to write me an email.
